Angry Ginge managing his side - YouTube

Salford has a new hopeful in the jungle with many locals already dreaming of success.

I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Series 25 is well underway with local Salford content creator Angry Ginge, real name Morgan Burtwistle, joining a growing number of past local contestants.

Following the initial excitement of Angry Ginge’s confirmation on the show, attention has quickly turned to a bigger question: could he actually win it? Angry Ginge was the bookie’s favourite to win before, but has since ceded favouritism to Manchester-born rapper Aitch.

Ginge is currently 2/1 to become King of the Jungle with bookmaker Bet365, while his Greater Manchester rival is as short as 7/5. He expected to go far in the competition and if passion and personality count for anything, Salford might be in with a real shot this year.

Angry Ginge has built an impressive online following through gaming streams and videos with a focus on FIFA and football-related content, produced on streaming service Twitch, where he has amassed 1.4 million followers and 889,000 subscribers on YouTube.

He is known for his playful sense of humour, competitive streak, and down-to-earth attitude. Ginge gained the attention of ITV producers following his stint in this year’s SoccerAid, where he got the chance to live out a boyhood dream of playing at Old Trafford, as a lifelong Manchester United supporter.

Former Salford contestants of the ITV fan favourite have set the bar high. Former Emmerdale star, Adam Thomas, famously powered through a record-breaking number of bushtucker trials during his stint in the jungle in 2016 where he finished in third place.

Andy Whyment, long-serving Coronation Street regular, was crowned runner-up in the 2019 series, winning the hearts of the nation due to his pure Salford charm.

The most unforgettable Salford star on the hit show has been Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder.

A leading figure of the Madchester scene in the 80s, Ryder formed a bromance with Whyment in the South Africa series of the show after discovering they attended the same schools in Salford, St. Mark’s and St. Ambrose Barlow.

Salford may not have had many contestants appear on the show, but when it does, they leave a lasting impression of the city’s spirit.

Angry Ginge is involved in managing under-18 side, Winton Wanderers Yanited FC.

A legacy that has the locals buzzing again, now Ginge is representing the city in the Australian bush. Social media is pulsing with Salfordians pledging their support, with many saying Angry Ginge has what previous Salford campmates had in common: likeability.

The key to winning the votes of the nation for the crown has always been public sentiment, which our current jungle recruit appears to have plenty of.

But daily life in the camp is more than personality. The trials can be gruelling, the hunger is all too real, and cabin fever can test those with even the strongest of character.

We have already seen Ginge complete the first Bushtucker trial of the series alongside comedian Ruby Wax, where they were tasked with eating a ghastly assortment of dishes to win meals for the camp.

His likeable, down-to-earth personality came out in full force during the trial as he enjoyed a witty back-and-forth banter with the show’s hosts Ant and Dec.

Angry Ginge represents a new, fresh era of celebrity, especially for younger audiences, on the long-running show: not a reality TV personality, or a long-established showbiz star, but built from raw, unfiltered personality and digital talent.

As Salford prepares to watch his journey unfold over the next few weeks, the standout message is simple: we’re behind him.

Whether he claims the crown or not, Angry Ginge is making Salford proud in the jungle.

I’m a Celebrity 2025 odds, according to bookmaker Bet365:
