Former world heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury enjoyed a pint during an unexpected visit to a Salford pub.
Staff at The Black Lion Hotel on Chapel Street said that Fury was enticed in for a drink by their “magical Christmas door display.”
Fury, 37, retired from boxing in January after he was beaten by Oleksandar Usyk and allowed himself to indulge in a festive pint of Guinness with his wife Paris.
Melissa, an employee at the Black Lion Hotel, said the visit was “a nice surprise.”
She explained that the pub’s impressive Christmas decorations caught the eye of the renowned British fighter and he asked for his photo to be taken underneath their festive door.
“He wanted a picture with Paris outside our venue under our new Christmas garland display and had a Guinness in our bar,” she said.
Melissa said The Black Lion Hotel “love to get in the festive spirit” but said they had gone the extra mile this time around.
“We always decorate for Christmas, but this is our first year with our new Christmas garland, which we will continue in the future, as we love to get in the festive spirit and think it is never too early to put up decorations.
“Tyson came around last Saturday for around 20 minutes. Everyone recognised him and wanted a picture with him right away.”
Two-time heavyweight champion Fury retired in 2022 before returning six months later and a rematch with Usyk has been rumoured to be planned for 2026.
The Gypsy King is determined to enjoy himself post-retirement and quickly won over the pub’s locals by buying a round of drinks.
“He bought a couple of pints for some lads who were already in the bar and enjoyed half a Guinness himself,” Melissa recalled.
Built in 1876, The Black Lion Hotel and Bar has recently benefited from a modern refurbishment.
A pint of Guinness, boozer’s most expensive beer on draught, set Fury back £6.30, but the Black Lion serves Coors and Carling at a lower £4.50 price.
