A historic Salford brass band is celebrating after receiving a donation allowing them to teach schoolchildren how to use instruments.
Cadishead Public Band secured a £600 donation from waste management firm CSG as part of a move by the firm to fund community projects.
The band say they will use the money to buy new instruments to carry out music lessons in classrooms initially across Irlam, Cadishead and Hollins Green.
Band Vice Chair David Dee was delighted they had been chosen to recieve the donation.
He said: “We are thrilled to receive this tremendous donation from CSG.
“We are a progressive, friendly, contesting brass band comprising of a good mixture of adult and young players and we see the Brass in Schools initiative as a way of ensuring the continuation of Brass music in the district.
“As well as performing in concerts and leading the Irlam and Cadishead Remembrance Procession, we visit schools in the local area to give them taster sessions in brass instruments to inspire a passion for music. This money will allow us to buy new specialist plastic instruments for this purpose.
“It’s fantastic to have the support of a successful business with a heart for the communities it serves.”
Cadishead Public Band, founded in 1877, has a rich history, evolving into a concert and marching band while maintaining strong local family connections.
Today, with its permanent home at the Cadishead Public Band Community Hall in Irlam, the band continues to nurture young musicians, provide instruments and tuition and uphold its motto of Consistency and Progress.
Daryl Tunningley, Marketing Manager at CSG, said: “We’re delighted to support Cadishead Public Band and the work it is doing introducing young people to music.
Many of these children will not have had the chance to try brass instruments before, so it is a very valuable experience.
“Many people in and around Irlam and Cadishead have enjoyed performances by the band over the years and we wish them all the very best for the future.”
CSG helps households and organisations by offering a complete variety of services ranging from waste collection through to treatment, recovery and disposal of countless waste streams.
The business has been operational for more than nine decades and has experienced significant growth in recent years.
