Eamon Davey guilty of stabbing

A man has been jailed for almost 10 years for stabbing a man in his former partner’s Salford house.

Eamon Davey, 59, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to nine years and nine months on Tuesday March 3 at Manchester Crown Court having previously pleaded guilty to assault.

Davey was arrested at the scene and a knife covered in the victim’s blood was found inside a black bag.

Officers were called to an address in Salford at around 9.20pm on 6 July 2025 after a report a man had been stabbed and was unconscious.

Davey had forced his way in through the back door with witnesses reporting hearing him shout that he had stabbed the victim.

The victim was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital for emergency surgery with his injuries described as life‑changing. They are now forced to take regular medication to aid their recovery.

Detective Constable Lauren Retford, who led this investigation for Salford’s Criminal Investigation Department, said: “This was a brutal and unprovoked attack. The sentence handed to Davey reflects the seriousness of his actions and demonstrates our commitment to tackling violent crime across Greater Manchester.

“His behaviour that night showed a complete disregard for human life, and it is only by luck that this incident did not end in a fatality.

“We continue to take a firm stance against anyone who chooses to carry or use a knife. If you have any concerns that someone you know may be carrying a weapon, we urge you to report it to us immediately.

“Our dedicated knife‑crime team, Operation Venture, works every day across Greater Manchester to target offenders, remove weapons from our streets, and protect vulnerable people from harm.

“Their proactive work – alongside intelligence from the public – is vital in tackling knife crime and keeping our communities safe.”
