A BRAVE mum from Macclesfield is facing her fear of heights by skydiving over the Great Barrier Reef to raise money for her local hospice.
Mother of two, Margaret Black, 54, will brave the 14,000ft drop over the world’s largest reef accompanied by her son Rob and son in law David.
Together they are hoping to raise £3,000 for East Cheshire Hospice in Macclesfield where Margaret works as a staff nurse.
Margaret said: “The scariest thing for me will be getting into that plane, I’ve been told by people who have done it that once you are actually out doing the free fall and then the parachute opens it’s absolutely magnificent, it’s a real buzz.”
Margaret, who has worked at East Cheshire Hospice for the past six years, said the money raised will go towards the daily running costs of the hospice, a large component of which is sourced through fundraising.
Margaret and her family had been planning a family holiday to Australia to celebrate her husband’s retirement when son Rob and son-in-law David expressed a desire to do a skydive whilst they were there.
Margaret said: “A few years ago I did a few half marathons for the Macmillan Scanner appeal and whilst that was hard work it wasn’t scary.
“If I’m going to do something for the hospice it’s got to be something that takes me completely out of my comfort zone.
“It’s over the great barrier reef so if you are going to do it anywhere it’s probably one of the nicest places to do it.”
This will be the first time Margaret has done a skydive and she is hoping to raise the target £3,000 by her jump day on Friday 7th April.
