Want something to do in Manchester before Christmas? Help raise £250 for an art auction that’s fundraising for Manchester Mind.

A JustGiving page was set up by a University of Manchester Student, Sophie Billington, to encourage the people of Manchester to raise £250 for an underground silent art auction.

The art auction will be held at the Solomans Cafe Bar in Withington, Manchester on Thursday 14th December. Students are able to show off and sell their art work whilst raising money for Manchester Mind. Tickets for the event are free from Eventbite.

Manchester Mind are also hosting a PostBox event and it will run at Indigo in Withington, Manchester from 9:30pm until the venue’s close.

Both events are set to feature jazz bands and local DJs. The date of the event will be released soon.

A review on TripAdvisor about Solomans Cafe Bar stated that it’s: “Fabulous!

Sophie Billington commented: “I thought it was a new and fun way to raise money for a charity because people usually do walks and runs so it’s a fresh way to raise money.” The fundraiser will be hosting students art work. Sophie expressed how many student’s work aren’t heard or seen so this is a great way to express students emotions and voices to the public. “People can express themselves through art. They can have fun whilst looking at art and raising money.”

Manchester Mind is an independent charity helping young people and adults over come mental health. The charity recently revealed that it hasn’t got the funding for counselling anymore.

Quoted from the JustGiving page: “Awareness of mental health issues is important, but it’s not enough on its own, seeing as it’s such a far-reaching and large issue. We’re determined to try and help in any way that we can.”

“We all have a part to play in supporting students to live and to be emotionally literate. Whilst suicide is relatively rare among young people, it remains the leading cause of death for 10-34 year olds in the UK.”
– Ged Flynn Chief Executive of national Charity PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide
