A Salford-born artist has donated one of his favourite pieces to a charity auction in efforts to raise funds for food refuge centre.
The auction, organised by Salford Media’s Tony Flynn, is the third supporting food banks in the last month.
After speaking to so many struggling food banks, Mr Flynn decided to set up the auctions to help raise money for those based in Salford in a unique way.
These previous auctions inspired the artist, Deano of ‘Deanery Interiors’ shop in Radcliffe, to help out in his own way. He said: “I saw what Tony was doing with these auctions, but I wasn’t in a position to donate any money.
“I realised I could still donate something, so I pretty much donated one of my favourite pieces.”
The 68 x 68cm painting is a portrait of Ian Brown of The Stone Roses, whose album covers have been a point of inspiration for Deano as an artist. He followed: “Lots of people have compared it to Jackson Pollock, but to be honest I’ve never really followed Jackson Pollock. I just love The Stone Roses.”
The bidding is currently at £100, with more hoping to be raised before the auction on Thursday.
Previous charities that have benefitted from these auctions include the Salford Unemployed Resources Centre in Eccles, and The Mustard Tree, which provides food and support to people all over Greater Manchester.
The Mustard Tree Retail Assistant, Georgia Breen, said: “We are really grateful for this money which will be spent on much needed food for our members”
This isn’t the only auction Deano is part of, with another painting of Ian Brown set to be auctioned off in aid of Share to Care this Christmas, an organisation looking to redistribute used toys around Salford for those who need them.
