Salford Grimsby

Salford City will find out who they face in the FA Cup first round following the draw which will take place at 19:00 tonight.

Live coverage of tonight’s cup draw will be shown on BBC Two as well as the FA Cup’s official Facebook and YouTube pages.

Manager, Neil Wood’s side are ball number 39 in the draw and could face one of the 32 non-league clubs who have successfully navigated the qualifying stages of the competition, or a fellow League Two side. League One clubs are also entered into the competition at this stage.

Every first round team’s ball number can be found here.

For a lower down non-League side such as Needham Market of the seventh tier of English football, an FA Cup first round ‘proper’ against League 2 Salford City would be one of the biggest games in the club’s history.

The draw could also pin Salford as an underdog themselves, if they were to come up against one of League One’s highflyers such as Portsmouth or Ipswich Town. In fact, some of the Ammies faithful would rub their hands with glee at the prospect of an away trip to Fratton Park or Portman Road. A big game such as this could also be lucrative for Salford City, if it was selected for live TV coverage.

This season’s first round ties are set to take place on the weekend of Bonfire Night (November 5-6th) and you can always bank on these games producing some fireworks of their own.

Victory in their first round tie, could prove to be massive for Salford as first round winners gain £41,000 in prize money.

This season’s FA cup final will be held at Wembley Stadium, its usual venue, on June 3rd 2023. The coronation of King Charles III, originally given the same date as the final, has been moved to accommodate the historic footballing event.
