A new Biodiversity bank plans to enhance habitats and promote biodiversity in Boothstown, Salford.
The project will involve habitat enhancements, including grass and woodland across a 35-hectare site in Boothstown.
Peel L&P’s Sustainability and ESG Director, Jo Holden, announced plans for the first biodiversity bank at the Greater Manchester Green Summit in Salford, today.
Ms Holden said: “We are very excited to make this firm commitment to starting our very first biodiversity bank and working in partnership with local and national stakeholders to understand how biodiversity banking can work for landowners.”
The Boothstown project could generate around 120 biodiversity units measured by the Defra Metric, which is used to assess existing habitats.
The Director of Land and Estates at Peel L&P said: “I’m looking forward to working with the team, contractors and the tenant farmer to enrich the grassland and woodland at Boothstown”.
Peel L&P is aiming for a 10% net gain for biodiversity at future sites, including in Boothstown.
