Salvation Army Christmas Present Appeal

The Swinton Salvation Army Christmas present appeal is accepting donations to help local families in need.

Ministers at the Salvation Army church, Michael and Verity West, started the Christmas present appeal 18 years ago when they first started their journey as ministers for the Salvation Army church.

Mr West said: “Wherever Verity and I have been doing our ministry, we’ve been in communities where we’ve seen need, so I think its just the right thing to do from our hearts.”

Seeing as the couple just moved to Swinton three years ago, the Christmas present appeal is still new in the community which in turn means that there aren’t usually enough toys donated.

This year there have been 100 Christmas toys donated and some financial donations so far, however, that may not be enough as it is predicted that approximately 200 to 300 people would be benefitting from these donations.

“I do this to basically give joy to a world that sometimes can be joyless,” Mr West explained .“I’m hoping that it’s just going to bring the community together and add value to the community.

“Without other people giving, we would not be able to give as much. We want this to be an approach that goes beyond Christmas.”

Donation collections are open until December 16. To donate a new toy or money, email at Michael.west@Salvationarmy.org.uk and Verity.west@Salvationarmy.org.uk or call 07976965999.
