Six Places In A Different Light

In a bid to shine a light on mental health awareness and wellbeing, a captivating sculpture trail is set to grace the streets of Salford, with six giant heads appearing across the city.

These unique large-scale head sculptures have been created by talented local artists. Amongst these skilled creators are illustrator Kelly Ma, community artist Tom J Newell, and painter Ekun Richard. What sets these sculptures apart is their representation to the community’s mental health experiences, using inspiration from individuals who have faced challenges.

The ultimate objective is to reach with new audiences and communicate with new communities through creativity, inspire open conversation and find new ways to look at mental health.

The heads will be appearing on the 30th of October in various locations across Greater Manchester, mainly locating within Salford; Mayfield Park, Greengate Square, the University of Salford’s Peel Park Campus, Imperial War Museum North and Media City. They will remain in these locations until the end of the project on December the 11th.

Though currently the six blank heads sit in Mayfield Park together, in a prepared painting space where they’ll be completed before transported to the various sites.

The ‘Six Places In A Different Light’ project is a joined with a larger project called ‘A Different Light’ that was founded in 2016 which initially consisted of four films, a music album, spoken word and edition of 300 bespoke mini head sculptures, created to also raise awareness for mental health and wellbeing.
