A Salford charity is appealing for young ball assistants to help the city’s football club on home matchdays.
Foundation 92, a charity that improves the lives of young people through sport, education and creative projects, are asking for grassroots football teams from the city to keep Salford City FC’s local games running smoothly.
Successful candidates will also receive a ticket for a parent to come with them to the game they’re assisting at.
Damon Traverse, head of media at Foundation 92, spoke about why the scheme is especially important for grassroots clubs: “It gives them an idea of what they can become, and they can also see the football first hand.
“It (also) gives them that discipline and the (chance to) see both sides of football, I think it’s really good for them.
“We’re looking to engage with as many grassroots teams as possible, so they can see what they could become.”
He also added that teams who may be nervous about applying for the scheme, which is reserved for those aged 12+ should not be worried.
He said: “I think it’s an environment that’s open for all types of people in Salford.
“It’s a really good opportunity, and it’s open to them to have a go at it.
“Normally it’s open to academy teams in most clubs, but we wanted to open it up to grassroots teams to involve them in the club.
“We’re looking for Salford-based teams to kind of spread the community and get everybody involved in our local football team.”
The ball assistants will be responsible for returning Salford City FC’s footballs back to the playing area should they end up in the crowd.
