Salford Red Devils have bolstered their ranks ahead of the 2024 season with the signing of second-row forward Matty Foster.

The 22-year-old joins the Reds after being released from current World Champions St Helens on an initial one-year deal, with an option to extend this further.

Foster has been unlucky with his injuries over the years since making his debut against Salford in 2020, suffering two back-to-back Anterior Cruciate Ligament injuries as well as a broken jaw.

Foster has spent time following his recoveries at Swinton Lions, helping them avoid the drop in the Betfred Championship.

Speaking to club media, Foster is delighted to join the Red Devils. He said: “I am thrilled to get this deal over the line and for the opportunity to play for this great club.

“I have always liked the way Salford play their rugby and once Paul Rowley and I had a chat, it was an easy decision to make.

“I am looking forward to the opportunities and to meeting all the players, staff and fans in 2024!”

Foster becomes the third player to join Salford for next season, alongside Nene McDonald and Ethan Ryan.

Red Devils Head Coach Paul Rowley added: “We are delighted that Matty is joining our club.

“He is a very versatile player, which is obviously important within a small squad.

“Everybody who has worked with him – including Kurt [Haggerty], who has previously coached Matty – gives huge praise for his character and commitment to giving everything for the team, which is exactly the type of player we want within our group!”
