A group of talented young singers from a Salford primary school have been given a special civic honour.
Students from Primrose Hill Primary School in Ordsall were invited to have tea and cake with the ceremonial Mayor for their role in a performance of the city’s new centenary anthem.
The pupils, who were among hundreds of young performers taking part in This Is Our Salford, a concert marking the city’s 100th anniversary at The Lowry Theatre.
Their rendition of ‘This Is Our Salford,’ a new song created to celebrate the city’s 100th birthday, captured the imagination of the Ceremonial Mayor of Salford, Councillor Robin Garrido.
He invited the children to perform again and enjoy tea and cake at Salford Civic Centre.
“All the children who performed, including those from Primrose Hill Primary School, gave a truly memorable performance at the MAPAS Centenary Concert,” Mr Garrido said.
“Their enthusiasm, confidence and pride in Salford shone through every word of the song. I wanted to thank them personally by inviting them to the Civic Centre to perform once more and to enjoy tea with the Mayoress.
They are wonderful ambassadors for our city and represent the bright future of Salford.”
‘This is our Salford’ was written by acclaimed local composer Mark Winstanley to pay tribute to the city’s “rich history, diverse communities and bright future.”
Created especially for the children of Salford as part of the Centenary celebrations, the uplifting anthem reflects local pride and encourages young people to celebrate the place they call home.
The song, whose chorus celebrates Salford as a city with “strength in history” and “shining a light to the rest of the world”, has quickly become a defining musical moment of the Centenary celebrations.
