Salford City have confirmed the signing of Ugandan defender Nathan Asiimwe from Charlton Athletic on a season-long loan.
The Ammies have completed the deal on the final day of the transfer window, making it twelve signings for Peter Cklamovski’s first summer in charge.
Coming through from the Charlton Athletic Academy, Asiimwe is capable of playing on both the left and right side of the pitch as a fullback. He was part of
the Under-18s side that won the Professional Development League 2 South title in 2022-23.
His proffesional debut came in the EFL trophy that same year, getting an assist.
In 2024-25 the Ugandan defender spent time on loan at Hartlepool United in the National League, before stepping up into Sky Bet League Two with a half-season loan at Walsall, helping the West Midlands side reach the play-off final.
Last season, the defender went on loan to Wimbeldon where he scored his first goal during his home debut against Lincoln City.
Speaking to the Club after penning a deal for the season, he said “I’ve had to be patient but now I’m here I’m buzzing to get going, and excited to be involved in what the plans are for the future. Everybody has welcomed me in and it’s been nice, I know a couple of the boys already, the Manager’s great and the staff are great.
“I’d describe myself as hard working, I’ll give my all for the badge, get up and down the wings. I like to one-v-one defend and help out in both boxes. When I get in the final third I try and take my man on, get my cross in, get some assists and try to get a goal or two.
“For me it’s more than just development, I’m looking further than that and hopefully if I can help the team achieve its goal this season who knows what the future can bring.”
Salford City are yet to pick up any points this season, the Ammies will play Newport County tonight aiming to get a first win of the season, and first win under Peter Cklamovski.
