Peter Cklamovski has spoken following his first victory as Salford City manager, beating Newport County thanks to two late goals.
Cklamovski, 47, joined The Ammies earlier this summer following the dismissal of Karl Robinson.
The Australian manager had gone winless up until tonight and looked set to lose out again thanks to a spectacular halfway line goal from Newport County’s Harrison Biggins, who scored from his own half.
Summer signing Taylor Allen and fan favourite Kelly Nmai were able to secure a comeback for Salford, getting their first three points of the season. “They were great goals, and it’s good to hit the back of the net,” said Cklamovski following the game.
“We felt like we just needed that circuit breaker to just get that breakthrough”
“In that little sticky period when things don’t go your way, that could have been the storyline of tonight, but we didn’t accept it, and the players made it their night.”
Cklamovski added, “That sort of goal that you concede, you can maybe see if the boys drop their heads and roll their shoulders over and get defeated by that – I was looking at the boys, and I knew we were coming home strong.”
Salford had lost their first three games under Cklamovski against Barnet, Chesterfield and Shrewsbury.
This victory has moved The Ammies up to 20th place in League Two; the next challenge is another home game against Port Vale on Saturday at 12:30.
