POLICE made 14 arrests throughout yesterday as Manchester City were held by Scottish champions Celtic 1-1 at home.

The two sides met for the second time this season as they faced off in the Champions League, with the first game also ending in a draw.

Manchester City finished second in the group six points behind Barcelona whereas Celtic finished bottom without winning a game.

Yesterday’s match passed largely without incident however some arrests were made throughout the day.

Superintendent Craig Thompson of Greater Manchester Police Specialist Operations Branch said “I am pleased to say that the fixture passed largely without incident, which I think is a testament to fans of both clubs.

“We have significant experience in policing occasions like this and sadly, as is often the case, we did experience a small number of incidents which were dealt with swiftly and resulted in a number of arrests. However the majority of fans were extremely well behaved”

One supporter was arrested for throwing a burger at a Police Horse, whilst there were reports of away fans setting off fireworks on trams.
