Salford City suffered their second home defeat in a row against local rivals Stockport County, losing 2-0 in another poor performance from The Ammies.

The game started very slowly, with the only notable occurrences in the first 20 minutes being a Luke Bolton effort across goal that just flashed wide of the County far post. And a kick-out from Hendry after a tough challenge by Callum MacDonald where the Salford striker was lucky not to see a card.
It was County who had the better of the chances in the first-half, with Hippolyte receiving the pick of the bunch after 27 minutes. Paddy Madden did brilliantly on the right before Horsfall laid it right into County’s number 21, who’s powerful shot nestled into King’s palms in the Ammies net.
Salford responded with a great chance of their own shortly after. Simões playing a lovely dinked ball into Bolton, who himself bounced the ball into the path of Hendry who looked certain to score from about four yards out – however he was too slow and the ball was cleared away by the County defence.
Stockport’s Liverpool loanee Víteslav Jaroš came off injured in the 35th minute, forcing substitute keeper Ben Hinchliffe to replace him.
It was eventually The Hatters that took the lead in added time, after a great darting run in behind from Hippolyte resulting in a well saved shot by King. The ball – unfortunately for the Salford keeper – popping up perfectly in front of net for Kyle Wootton to smash home, a scrappy goal fitting of the scrappy nature of the game. Leaving the half-time score at 1-0.
Early in the second half it appeared that Salford had found an equaliser, after Hinchliffe collected and then tripped with the ball into his net for 1-1. However, the referee blew his whistle for a push on the substitute by Luke Bolton – keeping the game’s score at 1-0.
Salford kept pushing, with Hendry having a great effort from the edge of the Stockport box, his curled shot leaving Hinchcliffe routed to the spot, however it sailed just over the bar. Matt Smith had another chance shortly after, with a great ball from Luke Bolton from the right hand side, however the forward couldn’t keep his header down.
In spite of Salford’s late flourish, it was Stockport who once again found a way through, with Paddy Madden putting away a well organised counter attack that was started by Will Collar. The winger dragging the Salford defence over, leaving Madden the freedom of the Peninsula to slide the ball home, which he did, 2-0.
That goal wrapping up all three points for County in what was another very poor home performance from The Ammies. This defeat being their second home loss in a row, after their 1-0 defeat to Bradford City last week.
This loss means Salford City have failed to take advantage of Carlisle, Bradford and Mansfield’s results on Saturday, as a victory against the Hatters would’ve taken them into fourth place, just three points off the automatic promotion places.
Thankfully for The Ammies, its a trip to bottom of the league Hartlepool next, which will be a good opportunity for them to bounce back after their recent poor home results.
