A father was attacked with a machete trying to save his son from two thugs in a £3,300 robbery.
His son had handed over the cash for an electric off-road bike to a Salford man when the attacker appeared, threatened them with the 12-inch blade, grabbed the bike and cash and made off.
When the father gave chase, the knifeman slashed his arm with the machete causing wounds that needed hospital treatment.
The Salford man who lured the victims via a Facebook marketplace advertisement has now been jailed, along with the attacker.
Jayden O’Donnell, of Ladywell Point, Pilgrims Way, Salford, who pleaded guilty to robbery, received a 22-month detention and training order (DTO) at Manchester Crown Court.
The knifeman Keenan Hilditch, of Wardsend Walk, Hulme, already on a suspended sentence for robbery, had pleaded guilty to robbery, grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article. He was jailed for four years seven months.
The son, father and son’s girlfriend had met the robbers after agreeing to buy the bike – a 2022 Surron LBX electric off-road bike – via the social media platform.
As the victim tried to take the bike he had just paid for, Hilditch produced a machete, that was believed to be 12” long, and took both the bike and the money.
When the father ran after them, Hilditch slashed his arm with the machete.
Hilditch was identified from ring doorbell footage. O’Donnell was identified by officers who regularly patrol the area.
PC Sean Bell, of GMP’s Xcalibre Task Force (XTF), said: “This was a pre-meditated robbery in which extreme violence was used on a father protecting his son from these thugs.
“This was a huge investigative effort from officers in Operation Valiant and Xcalibre Task Force knowing the areas in which they police very well and coming together to bring down this threat.
“Taking these two off the streets will protect other members of the public from further robberies.”
