Salford City welcome Colchester United to the Peninsula Stadium this weekend as the play-off race heads towards its climax.

The Ammies currently sit in the last play-off spot in 7th place with 66 points. Mansfield Town are breathing down their necks, being just one point behind.

Whilst at face value it seems Salford have their fate in their own hands, the teams around them, Mansfield, Bradford City and Stevenage all have games in hand.

Those three teams also, like Salford, are playing teams further down the table.

Following Callum Hendry’s stoppage time heroics last time out at Wimbledon, the team will be looking to carry that momentum into the game against the U’s.

Colchester will be making the 500-mile round trip to Moor Lane unbeaten in their last five, including a 2-2 draw against leaders Leyton Orient.

The Essex side sit in 20th place after a slow start to the year, and are in the relegation battle, five points clear of Crawley.

Their last game saw them put four past Crewe at home, despite being a side that struggles for goals.

Colchester sit 20th in the scoring charts this season and their top scorer being midfielder Noah Chilvers.

Ammies fans will hope this game will see Salford finally keep a clean sheet, not having done so since playing Walsall on January 31, 13 games ago.

The reverse fixture saw a 1-1 draw in Colchester, Conor McAleny’s goal being cancelled out by defender Fiacre Kelleher.

Neil Wood will hope that his side can win to keep their play-off hopes and a distant chance of an automatic promotion alive with just five games left in the season.
