The upcoming relaunch of Langworthy Cornerstone will re-introduce the hub to the local community this Thursday October 5.

Chair of the Langworthy Cornerstone, Gerry Stone, said: “For us it’s to restate that we’re here, that we’re open for everyone. With the relaunch, we want to offer everyone in the community something.”

The relaunch is aimed at learning from the past before moving towards the future with the help of the community. The recent changes to the demographics of the local area are also being looked at to improve the available events.

Since it was built in the early 2000s Langworthy Cornerstone has been, well, a corner stone for the Salford Community, particularly in and around Pendleton and Weaste. After a regeneration project, the Cornerstone has been a hub for community events.

Inside Langworthy Cornerstone

Prior to the Cornerstone opening, the area was described as “not a nice experience” by local Salford resident Gerry, housed on a road “governed by younger people that were quite disaffection”

The pandemic proved to be a struggle for the Cornerstone, as the journey over the last two years has allowed the staff to “reflect on the past and catch on what we’ve done in the present and move into the future with vigour” as Chief Officer, Bev Fletcher, would illustrate.

As part of a diverse community, Bev is hoping for a new wave of people to start coming to the centre and provide their impact on the centre’s events.

Bev said: “We want to find out what else this community wants for the centre.

“It’s not about the bricks and mortar, it’s about the heart of the building, the people who are in the building and the actual community that has come together in this…it’s a hub”
