Newport County’s Harrison Biggins scored a goal of the season contender by placing it from his own half over Will Norris, but new signing Taylor Allen and Kelly Nmai scored to complete a comeback.
Salford City won a corner in their first attack of the game in less than a minute. Joe Powell took it well but it was cleared by the Newport defence. Salford followed up quickly with another attack, putting a dangerous ball into the box, Newport got to it first, though, and cleared it.
The Ammies dominated the ball in the early stages, making a number of attacks but failing to get more than a half chance.
Luke Molyneux got the first real chance for Salford, receiving the ball on the edge of the box. He attempted to curl it in, but Jordan Wright in goal for Newport was able to catch it.
A crunching tackle from Will Aimson left Harrison Biggins on the floor calling for a foul – none was given though.
Joe Thomas was able to block a shot on the line from Odoh, preventing another early chance for Salford.
On the turn of the quarter hour, Salford won another corner – the ball fell to Luke Molyneux, who put a curled cross into the box – no one was there to meet it, though.
Salford continued to control the ball, keeping Newport County firmly pressed into their own half.
Molyneux again led the attack, making an impressive run into the box, he laid the ball to Kallum Cesay who shot it wide.
Will Norris gave away the ball in a threatening position, but Salford were able to weather the storm of the Newport forwards, clearing the ball into the Exiles’ half.
Ciardn Brennan of Newport got a shot away from outside the box, but it went far over the Salford City goal.
The two teams battled it out in the midfield for a period but neither were able to create a clear-cut chance.
Odoh was able to hit a clean strike but it curled over the bar before Graydon quickly took an effort of his own that went wide of the goal.
Salford continued to turn the screws in the final minutes of the first half but found it impossible to break down Newport County.
Joe Powell took a free kick in one of the final actions of the first half, which proved to be Salford’s best chance of the game at that stage – as it rattled the near post only to be cleared on the rebound.
Salford got the game underway again after the break and continued their form from the first half, putting pressure onto Newport, but the Exiles stood strong, not allowing Salford to get their break through.
The Ammies won a corner in the fifty-eighth minute, which led to a dangerous counter-attack from Newport. Through on goal, Shaquielle Gwengwe got the ball caught up in his feet and the Salford defence were able to claim.
On the hour mark, Cameron was able to slice a shot towards goal, forcing a save from Norris; Newport seemed to be reversing the state of play.
Kelly Nmai was the first sub of the game coming on for Odoh in the sixty-third minute, making an instant impact by winning a Corner for Cklamovski’s side.
He followed it up by placing a shot into the side netting,
Newport County got their best chance of the game at that stage shortly after, the ball fell to Alfie Merrit, who sent it way over an open goal.
Against the run of play, Newport County finally went ahead through a spectacular goal in the seventy-first minute. Harrison Biggins shot over the keeper from his own half; Will Norris was not able to get to it quickly enough as the ball floated into the back of the net.
Salford ferociously fought for an equaliser, and they got their moment when new signing Taylor Allen curled one into the Newport net from inside the box.
The Ammies went one further, completing their comeback thanks to Kelly Nmai, who had been one of Salford’s brightest sparks since coming on. Nmai volleyed the ball into the near post corner, securing Salford’s first win under Cklamovski.

It was one last Salford Corner to end the game, which they played reservedly back into their own half.
This win moves Salford City up to twentieth in the table.
