Salford City Head Coach Karl Robinson spoke candidly about the club’s January Transfer Window performance ahead of his side’s match against Wrexham.

The Ammies boss has had little time to plan his reshaping of the Salford squad since his appointment, yet he believes the work done across the window will have a beneficial effect going forward.

Speaking to the media, he noted that the club prioritised the signing of “young players whether permanent or on loan” as the Ammies look to build towards “long term” goals.

The 43-year-old highlighted that “we believe that there’s a lot more to come” from the incoming West Ham loanee Dan Chesters, who arrives at Moor Lane with “a point to prove.”

Blessed with “great pace” Chesters by design appears to be a direct replacement for the outgoing Luke Bolton.

The winger featured from the start in 20 of Salford’s league games despite early season injury issues, but Robinson emphasised that the club had the final say in his departure.

“This was our choice, don’t forget when we do any business it will always be our choice.”

After bidding the club farewell only days ago, Bolton will be quickly reacquainted with his teammates as the Welsh club visit Salford this weekend.

The Ammies are yet to be beaten since the arrival of the Rainhill-born manager and will come into this weekend’s fixture buoyant after an inspired comeback win against 5th-place Crewe Alexandra.

Despite Salford’s positive form, Wrexham might be the sternest test posed so far in his spell at the club. The Welsh club currently sit 2nd in the league and are firmly in contention to record a second successive promotion.

But Robinson believes his side can challenge the Red Dragons: “They’ve got so many good players (but) we feel that we will be incredibly competitive at the weekend. We will match Wrexham in effort, desire style and application this Saturday.”

In the reverse fixture earlier this season, Wrexham staged a dramatic fightback from 2-0 down, with Steven Fletcher and Jordan Davies scoring late on to secure all three points in a 3-2 win.

Salford will be hoping to reverse their fortunes as the sides meet again on Saturday in front of a sell-out crowd at the Peninsula Stadium (3pm kick-off).
