A new 5G tower could be built in Salford following the submission of a planning application.

The 30m-high tower will be within three kilometres of Barton Aerodrome by the M62 motorway, opposite Merlin Road in Irlam.

The tower will be situated on Oxcheek Farm, Irlam and will aim to expand the 4G and 5G reception in the area, along with allowing capacity for 6G in the future.

The tower will aim to improve the signal across the region for people of all phone providers.

The tower will also accommodate different telecom companies including EE, Vodafone, 02 and more.

Entrust, the company behind the application, say their mission is to “Boost the drive for improved connectivity in the UK by building and maintaining consolidated and adaptable infrastructure for use by all the Telecommunications Network Providers.”
