A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm in Salford, following a report of ‘credible intelligence’.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers executed a “proactive firearms strike” at the address at Thorpe Street in Salford on Saturday afternoon.
The male was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and ammunition. He remains in police custody for questioning.
Detective Inspector Michael Jimenez, from GMP’s Salford division, said: “The operation was carried out swiftly and safely.”
“At this stage, the investigation remains in its early phases with a scene still in place.”
GMP said: “We understand that incidents of this nature can cause concern, but we want to reassure the public that there is no wider risk or threat to the community.
“Our officers acted on credible intelligence and took decisive action to ensure public safety.”
They added that the incident has no link to the terror attack which occurred on Thursday 2 October 2025, outside a synagogue on Middleton Road in Crumpsall.
GMP have reassured the community that they are dedicated to tackling gun crime and removing dangerous weapons from the streets.
Detective Inspector Michael Jimenez said: “Extra patrol officers have been deployed around the local area, both on foot and in patrol cars.”
He added: “If you have any concerns, our officers will be happy to provide reassurance and listen to any of your queries.”
