Salford theatregoers will be able to experience Northern Ballet’s acclaimed production of Gentleman Jack this June as the company joins forces with Finnish National Ballet to bring Anne Lister’s remarkable story to the stage.
Gentleman Jack tells the extraordinary story of Yorkshire woman Anne Lister through her diaries, which have inspired biographies, novels and a television series, exploring the life of a woman described by some as the “first modern lesbian.”
Set during the 19th century, the show follows Anne Lister’s life as she navigated the world in her own way, fefusing to conform to the societal expectations of her time.
Lister’s story is explored through dance and music in this unique re-telling.
The ballet’s creative team features choreography by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, music composed by Peter Salem, lighting and set design by Christopher Ash, and costume design by Louise Flanagan.
With a runtime of one hour and forty minutes, audiences should expect explorations of adult themes as well as the use of flashing lights and loud noises.
Gentleman Jack will be performed in the Lyric Theatre, The Lowry from Thursday to Saturday 6 June.
These performances are suitable for ages 12 and above.
Evening performances are running on all three days from 7.30pm with matinee performances on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 from 2pm.
