Salford Youth Zone - MediaCity

A state-of-the-art youth hub in Salford is set to celebrate its first birthday in style with a day of free family-friendly activities.

People from across the city are set to descend on Salford Youth Zone on Saturday 4 July to take part in a vibrant programme of activities, partner-led workshops and exciting live performances to mark its first anniversary.

Since opening its doors in June 2025, the Pendleton-based youth hub has welcomed more than 6,000 members, providing young people with the chance to try new activities, enjoy free hot meals and access support from youth workers.

The centre is open seven days a week for young people aged eight to 19 and up to 25 for those with additional needs, with sessions costing 50p per visit.

It was developed by youth charity Empower in partnership with Salford City Council and national charity OnSide, with backing from Salford billionaire businessman Fred Done.

Salford Youth Zone has supported thousands of the City’s children in its first year.

Adam Farricker, CEO of Empower, shared: “This event is a landmark celebration for our Youth Zone and the entire city of Salford.

“Since we first began developing our offer in Salford, we have been so welcomed and supported by the city and its communities, working together to create a safe, supportive, and vibrant space for young people to thrive.

“I’m incredibly proud of all we have achieved in such a short time and deeply grateful to everyone who has been a part of our journey. This is just the first chapter of an incredible future to come.”

Organisers said that the day will also be a celebration of the Youth Zone’s place in Salford’s story in the city’s centenary year.

A spokesperson for the youth centre said: “Beyond recognising Salford Youth Zone, the day also celebrates a landmark year for the city. As Salford celebrates its centenary this year, we are proud to be part of the city’s story, honouring its remarkable history while investing in a brighter future for generations to come.

“We’re also committed to supporting the city’s ambition to become a truly Child Friendly Salford, where every child and young person feels safe, heard, and valued.”
