A Salford mum has announced the opening of a new childminding service
Bethany Mcroy, 26, has lived in the city her whole life. She was raised in Seedley with her nine siblings and has worked as a nursery nurse for the past six years.
After the birth of her son in February, Bethany made the choice to start Playdays with B from her own home serving the Duchy area. She found that all childminding courses in the area had been suspended due to the pandemic, so she completed an online course over the summer. Having already achieved her Level 3 Qualification in Early Years and Level 3 in Special educational needs and disability (SEND), she was able to complete this course quickly. By December, her Ofsted inspection had come through and she is now able to open her childminding service to the public.
“I’ve felt both pros and cons of having a baby this year and luckily all my maternity care was all prior to the pandemic…I’m majorly grateful for this, after seeing the struggles so many new families have been through,” says Bethany.
“Lockdown has given me and my boy the strongest bond, so I couldn’t imagine going back to my 11 hour day at my nursery job.”
As well as provide a safe place for children to learn through play, Bethany has plans to introduce the children she works with to sign language as well as engaging in home activities such as cooking and baking. She also looks forward to starting a vegetable patch with the kids in the warmer months and having them learn to take care of living creatures such as her bearded dragon and dog, Elvis.
The Salford mum added:“Having grown up and worked in the Salford area, and seen the stigmas and stereotypes of this city, I want to play my part in helping the next generations receive the best start in creating a bright, ambitious and successful future,”
“I want families to know their little ones are being cared for like a member of my own family and not another number on a register.”
The service is open Monday – Friday, 7:45-18:45 and January bookings are now being accepted.
