Sunday’s away game at rival Greater Manchester team, Mossley Hill’s, home ground was not to be for Salford City Lionesses after a 3-3 draw.

After a win from their last game, Sunday’s draw put the lionesses currently second in the North West women’s regional league with 18 points.

The opening half saw the Lionesses put pressure on Mossley Hill, with a chance for a Salford goal at 19 minutes after Abdullahi set up Cartlidge for a goal.

The lionesses quickly took the lead after a tackle from the keeper to Salford number 15, leaving the goal open for Abdullahi to slot the ball into the right corner giving Salford the upper hand.

Another quick goal for Salford after Cartlidge chipped the ball high above the keeper 250 yards away from goal, brushing past the keeper’s hands the goal hit the back of the net just below the crossbar. Things were looking positive for the Lionesses with a two-point lead.

Mossley hill threatened Salford’s lead one minute before half-time with a goal after the ball swept past Salford’s defenders.

HALF-TIME 1-2

After no extra time the game continued after half-time, Salford needed to stay strong to keep their lead.

Five minutes later, an equaliser for Mossley Hill went in after some poor defending from the Lionesses. It was now all to play for as both sides sit at 2-2.

However, after ten minutes the Lionesses regained their lead after another brilliant goal by Cartlidge, at a tight angle she managed to direct the ball into the goal throwing the Mossley keeper completely off guard.

As the final whistle drew closer it looked like it could be a victory for Salford, but a goal for Mossley Hill at 70 minutes made the two Manchester sides equal again with three goals each.

The last 20 minutes saw three substitutions for Salford but it was not meant to be for Salford at Mossley Hill and after an eventful 90 minutes the final score ended at 3-3.
