Monton Unitarian Church, in collaboration with a local charity, is holding its first Christmas Tree Festival since 2019 to bring “a bit of warmth and light into people’s lives”.
Anna Jarvis, 46, Minister at Monton Unitarian Church, is inviting everyone to visit the church this weekend, have a tea or cake, and to get involved in the Christmas festivities.
She said: “This is our third Christmas Tree Festival, the last two were in 2018 and 2019.
“The main reason for doing it is that we want to get the community together.
“We’ve got all sorts of different people who have brought their own trees here and decorated them, showing what they can offer to the community.”
The church has teamed up with 42nd Street, a Greater Manchester based charity, which focuses on emotional well-being and mental health for young people.
Anna was keen to pair up with 42nd Street as it was highly recommended by members of the congregation.
She said: “We know the last two years have been hard on everybody, but on young people particularly, so we wanted to support a charity that plugs the gap that the statutory services can’t fill.”
Pauline Smit, 41, a volunteer at the church, said: “There’s a really nice energy and vibe within the community in the church.
“When I first moved into the area, I visited the festival here and when I heard it was happening again, I was just so excited.”
“Monton has such a great community feel and this is evident of that.”
The Monton Unitarian Church will continue to bring the Christmas spirit to the community with “magical experiences” through services across the festive period.
