Marc Sneyd’s drop goal in extra time secured a victory for Salford Red Devils against bottom side Wakefield Trinity 14-13 at the AJ Bell Stadium.

The result gave Salford their third win in five, lifting them up into the top four of the Super League.

The Red Devils took the lead through a nice bit of play, with Matty Costello being sent through by Ryan Brierley.

Marc Sneyd converted to send the home side into the lead 6-0.

Trinity responded with Jorge Taufua, finding Corey Hall for their first try in the 11th minute of the game.

With this being the teams first points scored for three games, Wakefield took massive defeats, losing 26-0 to the Leeds Rhinos and 60-0 to the Wigan Warriors in that period.

They were able to equalise through the conversion of Mason Lino, but things continued to get worse for the Red Devils, with Reece Lyne converting another try for the away side.

But much to the joy of the Salford faithful with Chris Atkin being able to weave through the Wakefield players to level.

With Marc Sneyd scoring his second conversion of the afternoon, to put Paul Rowley’s side back into the lead 12-10 for the break.

Both teams remained quite quiet in the second half, with the Yorkshire side equalising with 10 minutes to go, from a penalty with Lino once again converting to make it 12-12.

The back and forth action continued for Salford with Marc Sneyd’s drop goal putting them in front in the 73rd minute of the game.

However, this lead didn’t last long with Trinity’s Mason Lino once again replying two minutes later with a drop goal to make it 13-13, despite being chased down by Sam Stone.

But the drama continued as the game went into extra time, with super Marc Sneyd hitting the crucial drop goal, scoring the golden point in the 85th minute.

For his effort in the game, center Matty Costello was named in the Betfred Team of the Week.

Paul Rowley’s side now sit in fourth place after back to back victories, with the last coming in a 60-14 win over Hull FC.

Red Devils will next travel away to play local rivals Wigan Warriors, who they are level on points with.
