I took a visit to Kingfisher Fish Bar on Salford Precinct, in search of a warm budget friendly meal to get me through the bitter winter winds.

When faced with the shop window of Kingfisher Fish Bar in Salford, I instantly understood I was entering a shop filled with character, charm and all the comfort of a warm meal on a crisp late November afternoon.

Walking into the chippy, the atmosphere was instantly friendly. I went around lunchtime, to which the shop was fairly busy. The serving staff treated every customer waiting for food with the same positivity as the next, which really set a positive tone for my visit.

One thing that instantly sprung out to me was how clean the place was. Although you would come to expect hygiene from any place you eat at, the Kingfisher Fish Bar really delivered a clean service with confidence.

Ordering at the counter was easy too, with the menu just above the counter on a sign in case you haven’t decided what you want to eat.

A big positive to me instantly was how the budget friendly the prices are. Buying five staple menu items; chips, peas, a small sausage, a fish and a can of Coca-Cola cost £11.70, with the portion sizes being quite generous for the cost.

The menu also boasts more than just your humble fish and chips, with pies, burgers and breakfasts ready to order as well. To reach the £5 minimum spend for card however, you would need to order more than one item in most cases.

Before sitting down to eat, I realized the table didn’t have cutlery, and was told by another table we needed to grab our own from the counter. However, this wasn’t such a big deal as the staff understood my slightly puzzled expression.

After grabbing my knife and fork it must be said, the meal was really quite pleasant, to put it simply. The chips being the big bulk of the meal provided quite a nice constant, with the flavour of the chips only being enhanced with the salt provided on the table.

When ordering my usual from a chippy, I know what to expect and I know what I think works, and I feel like Kingfisher Fish Bar delivered to the standard that I come to hope for from the dish.

Even when leaving the establishment, we were treated with kindness. Rounding out what can only be described as a lovely meal out. This definitely left a lasting impression on me as I was thinking about how lovely my day was on the way home.

To answer if I achieved my goal of a budget friendly warm meal, the answer is a resounding yes. What I perhaps didn’t expect was the quality of the food and the beaming service that I had been given while I was there. This is definitely a spot I could see myself visiting again.
