A man who led police on a “dreadful” high-speed car chase from Salford has narrowly avoided jail.
Daniel Daley, of Gibwood Road in Wythenshawe, appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court this morning (2 December) charged with dangerous driving and driving without insurance.
The court heard how the 32-year-old had initially been alerted by officers on Regent Road in Salford, but took off, forcing them to pursue him at speeds of up to 90mph.
Daley drove his Audi A5 “through at least four red lights”, according to the chief Magistrate, before mounting pavements to pass vehicles and narrowly missing pedestrians.
The chase, which went through Princess Parkway, ended in the Didsbury area of Manchester, where Daley opened the car door and presented himself to officers.
The Magistrate went on to say: “That footage was absolutely dreadful. Like something out of Fast and Furious.”
Daley pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and the judge took this into account. He was sentenced to a two-year suspended custody sentence of 24 weeks, 12 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days, 250 hours of unpaid work and a suspension from driving for three years.
He was also charged £239 for court-related fees.
The judge said the defendant showed a “prospect of rehabilitation” and he escaped custody “by the skin of his teeth.”
