Weaste Pride is set to return this July, with organisers confirming a throwback 80s versus 90s theme for this summer’s event.

Organisers have unveiled the lineup for the festival which will be held at Weaste and Seedley social club.

Manchester-based drag queen Tina Tuna will be hosting the event, with performances from Manchester Proud Chorus and Beautiful Mancs.

Music will be played throughout the day with daytime disco by DJ Tasha, Disco Doyenne & Ben, a Madonna versus Kylie set by Dawn Spry, and a Queen tribute performance by Phil Kinsella.

In addition to an exciting roster of 80s and 90s musical performances, Weaste Pride will also be hosting a raffle to raise money for Salford based suicide prevention charity Jak’s World.

Jak’s World aims to support young people facing challenges as they navigate life. The charity’s mission is to provide essential emotional and practical services to support and guide young people who may struggle with mental health disorders.

The charity offers therapy, counselling, and mental health first aid to combat loneliness amongst young people.

All money raised by the Weaste Pride raffle will go towards suicide awareness charity Jak’s World.

Founder of Weaste Pride Ian Carberry said: “Weaste Pride means a lot to me. For most of my life Pride was something you had to travel into the city for. That was great, but it never quite felt like it belonged to where I actually live. So to now have something right here in Weaste and Seedley, on our own streets, with our own people, feels a bit special.

“This isn’t about trying to be the biggest or the flashiest. It’s about creating something local, welcoming and real. Somewhere people can turn up as they are, whether that’s families, older residents, young people figuring things out, or people who have never been to a Pride before.

“For me, it’s a party with a purpose. Yes, it’s about having a good time, music, performers, a proper line up we’re genuinely proud of. But it’s also about visibility, community and looking after each other.

“We’re really proud to be supporting Jak’s World Charity. Mental health and suicide awareness isn’t something separate from our community, it affects us all, and if we can raise money and awareness while bringing people together then that feels like the right thing to do.

“At its heart, Weaste Pride is just about saying you belong here. Not somewhere else, not in the city centre, but here, in your own neighbourhood. And I think that’s brilliant.”

Weaste Pride will be held at Weaste & Seedley Social Club on Saturday 11 July.
