A vibrant touring Salford festival is set to return to a popular Walkden park as the city continues to mark its centenary year in style.
The Wagon Train, a pop-up festival inspired by local communities transforming different green spaces across the city into a colourful music-filled celebration, will roll through Parr Fold Park on Saturday, 30 May.
The free festival will kick off with a Whit Walk-inspired procession starting from Little Hulton to Parr Fold Park, via the Loop Line from 11am to 1pm.
The procession will include a choir, stilt walkers, CM Stars dance group, and Peels Amateur Drama Group.
From 1pm, Parr Fold Park is set to host live music and performances, including Farnworth and Walkden Brass Band, Daytime Singers Choir, and Martin Boswell.
Festival goers will be invited to share their stories about Salford as event organisers collect audio to memorialise residents in the city’s centenary year.
Hosted by John O’Neill, the event has been facilitated by a host of neighbourhood groups.
These include Community Little Hulton, Friends of Parr Fold Park, and Peel Amateur Drama Group.
Audio stories of Salford are also set to be collected for an upcoming sound walk project for Salford’s Centenary.
On-street parking is available for attendees, as well as accessible toilets during cafe opening hours.
Hot food and drinks are available from the cafe, as well as a pop-up refreshment stand serving coffee, snacks and ice cream.
The event is taking place at Walkden Road, Walkden, M28 7EA and more information about the Wagon Train rolling through the city is available here.
