The Salford Museum and Art Gallery have re-opened their biennial ‘Salford Open’ for the fifth year running.

The Salford Open 2026 is celebrating the work of artists of any age, living, working, studying who are born in Salford.

Residents can expect to see over 187 art work pieces, bringing together local talent including painting, drawing, print, textiles, photography, sculpture and mixed media. Over 270 pieces of made over the last two years were submitted.

The final section to be shown exhibits 169 separate pieces of artists work, with seven of those being created by under 18’s.

Salford Open has been running since 2018 and “it keeps growing in size, popularity and standard”,  Amy Brunn, Exhibitions Manager and Lead of Salford Open 2026.

The Exhibition has been selected alongside an external judge; Kirby Corless, Director and Curator of Ey-Up Wigan CIC.

Exhibitions are selected based on quality, artistic integrity and relevance to audiences, collections and venues.

Amy said: “We want the open to be representative of what is happening in Salford today.”

Prizes will be awarded for first and runner up and anyone can have a say in the peoples choice award if they vote for their favourite piece when they visit.

Artists  also have the chance to win the following: Geoffrey Key Award, The Pinc College Student Choice and Ptaff pick.

With the Salford 100 year celebration, there will be a special prize for Mathew Rosier’s favourite art piece.

Amy continued: “people are really creative in Salford and are producing realy high quality stuff, and we want to share that.”

This exhibition will running until November 29 2026 and it is free to visit.

The Salford Museum is open from 9:30am-4pm, Tuesday-Friday and 11:30am-4pm on Weekends.
