Salford interim manager Paul Scholes.

The game between Salford City and Scunthorpe United tonight has been postponed after the Lincolnshire side had EIGHT players test positive for Covid-19.

A statement on the Ammies’ website stated that: “This morning we were made aware of the postponement due to a number of COVID-19 cases at Scunthorpe. The decision has been taken to avoid any risk of further infection and spread of the disease.

“Our best wishes for a speedy recovery go to those affected.

“Next week’s Central League fixture between the clubs has also been postponed.”

A further TEN Scunthorpe players are having to self-isolate for the side sitting 23rd in SkyBet League Two.

The decision is in line with guidance from Public Health England and a statement on The Iron’s website revealed that they were left with only ten available players for tonight’s match.

No date has yet been set for the rearranged fixture.

The next tie for eighth-placed Salford City will be at home to Oldham Athletic on Saturday October 31.
