Chris Atkin

Salford Red Devils star Chris Atkin has joined Castleford Tigers ending his over five-year association with the club.

Atkin who joined the Red Devils from Hull KR in late 2019, in time for the 2020 campaign was always a consistent player for the team earning the name ‘Mr Versatile’.

Across his 110 appearances for the club, Atkin consistently showed his selflessness to play a multitude of unfamiliar positions for the benefit of the team.

And during his time at the club, he was able to win 54 games and scored 17 tries for the Salford Red Devils – but will now join former Salford team-mate Brad Singleton at Wheldon Road.

In a final message to the Red Devils’ supporters, Chris Atkin said: “It has been an honour to represent this club for so many years.

“Thank you to the fans, players and staff for everything, Salford will always feel like home for me and my family, and hold a special place in our lives.”

The club also shared following his exit: “Everyone at the club would like to thank Chris for his incredible contributions to the Red Devils over his five-year stay and wish him all the best with the rest of his career.”

The 32-year-old is the sixth star to leave the club and sparks another sad exit for the team who are struggling this season.

The Red Devils currently sit 11th in the division and have only managed to secure one victory this campaign over bottom of the table Huddersfield Giants.

And Paul Rowley will be without the option of Atkin ahead of their Magic Weekend fixture against Hull KR at St James Park this weekend.
