Salford boxer Lewis Woods

A Salford fighter is looking to deliver an early Christmas present to his fans when he steps into the ring next month.

On Saturday, December 16, Lewis Wood, 29, will go toe-to-toe with Liverpudlian boxer John Edo for the Central Area Super Featherweight title.

Wood, who boasts a 6-2 win record cannot wait for the bout to begin and expects a sellout crowd at the Bowler’s Exhibition Centre in Trafford Park.

Some would expect the fight to have extra spice because a Manchester fighter is going head-to-head with a Liverpool boxer.

But Wood is not bothered about where Edo is from and is hoping to use the fight as a stepping stone to more boxing glory.

He said: “As a rivalry, I’ve got nothing against the kid, but he’s in my way at the end of the day and he’s obviously going to try and spoil my plans of becoming Central Area champion.

“I can’t let it happen.”

In front of his hometown fans Wood is convinced he can produce the goods against Edo and admits that when that opening bell rings, he will be laser-focused on the job in hand.

The Salford-born scrapper has also never given up on his ultimate goal and that is to be amongst the best in the world.

However, he knows he has a long road ahead before he can achieve that goal.

He added: “Once I’m in that ring I won’t even hear the crowd, it’s just tunnel vision on the opponent.

“I mean, every fighter’s goal is to be a world champion.”

Anyone who’s in the sport at the end of the day, becoming a world champion, that’s when you securing yourself financially.

“That’s just every fighter’s goal and dream because that means you’re the best in your weight category.

“So, yeah, that’d be the ultimate goal but like I said, just take it one step at a time, no point in jumping ahead.”

The title fight is all going down on Black Flash Promotions 10 year anniversary show.

Tickets are still available, and you can get them directly from Lewis himself on Instagram @lewwood_ .
