Year eight pupils from the Swinton Co-op Academy have put together 32 hampers for families in need and the homeless as part of their social action project.

Mrs Ali, Principal at Coop Academy Swinton, said: “This is a yearly event and our students, staff and community contribute food items or make donations to allow us to create these hampers for those in need.

“We are very proud of our students and to be able to serve the community during these difficult times”

The Co-op Academy in Swinton is in partnership with the Manchester United Foundation and as a result of this, pupils in year eight have been taking part in a social action group with Adele Howarth, the school’s partner officer.

This year Social Action Group decided to make Christmas Hampers for families in need and the local homeless shelter.

The group worked hard in putting together some fantastic Christmas Hampers, the academy had aimed for 15 hampers originally but due to the generosity within the community they managed to make over double, 32 of them.

The Academy took Fred the Red, the Manchester United mascot out into the Swinton community and completed food shopping in the morning with the donations from staff and the local community.

The Co-op Academy via Twitter said: “A heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated, making these hampers possible!  Your generosity is making the holidays brighter for families and the homeless.

“Together, we’re creating a season of warmth and kindness.
