Luke Littler with the trophy - Deliveroo

An Eccles restaurant has a chance at taking home the title of the ‘nation’s best kebab’ after British darts sensation, Luke Littler selected them as a finalist.

My Greek Street Food in Eccles was selected by Littler, and if they are successful could win the golden kebab trophy, the newly named Luke Littler x Deliveroo Best Kebab Award.

The shop in Eccles will be competing against nine other local kebab spots in a celebration of ‘the very best sizzling shawarmas, glorious gyros and perfect pittas.’

The top sporting champion has been recruited to help score a whole new kind of treble for the delivery app – with 18-year-old Luke Littler showing plenty of support for his hometown kebab spot in the past, he has now encouraged the nation to do the same.

Collaborating with Deliveroo, Luke was able to work with the takeaway delivery company to compile a shortlist of ten of the nation’s very best kebab restaurants – including the much-loved My Greek Street Food in Eccles.

Luke Littler said: “Whether it’s chicken tikka or lamb, there are three steps to a tasty kebab: juicy lean meat, fresh salad, all wrapped up in soft bread.

“These restaurants on Deliveroo are doing it right. I can’t see any misses in this list.”

My Greek Street Food, nestled in Peel Green, Eccles, is a family-run eatery that has quickly become a local favourite since its opening in December 2021.

Founded by a couple who moved to the UK from Greece five years ago, they were inspired to open their own restaurant after struggling to find authentic Greek cuisine nearby.

My Greek Street Food – Eccles and Patricroft website they back this up, as they say: “My Greek was established with the desire to give you unique tastes of Traditional Greek flavours.

“As big food lovers ourselves like every Greek person you’ll ever meet, we created dishes that not only represent the extraordinary Mediterranean cuisine, but also the taste of God worthy food.

“Passion for food, family and life is the key in Greek culture and we are here to represent it with our heartly made dishes.”

And this passion for food can be seen on their menu, boasting a variety of traditional dishes, including Yeeros, Souvlaki, and the popular OMG Bowl, with their top selling kebab on the Deliveroo app being the Yeeros Pita Chicken.

In search for the award, the Eccles restaurant will be competing against Tarboush Express in Loughborough, Yara, from Luke’s hometown Warrington, Mraya in Nottingham, and George’s Tradition from Mansfield.

As well as Konak in Leicester, Sqew Kebabs from Leeds, The Kebab Lab based in Burnley, Emmy’s Pitta in Coventry, and the Coral Reef Takeaway in Crewe.

Will Shu, CEO & Founder at Deliveroo said: “Who better than Luke Littler to reintroduce the award that celebrates a true Deliveroo fan favourite, the kebab.

“The restaurants in the running are serving kebabs of incredible quality and have built loyal followings in their local communities. We want to recognise those doing it best – so get voting for your favourite restaurants nominated for the award.”

However, whilst Luke has had a hand in picking the ten finalists for the Best Kebab, it is up to the nation to decide the champion with the public vote being closing on Friday 9 May.

And Salford residents will be able to show their support for the local kebab shop as a part of the Deliveroo Restaurant Award here.

Voting closes on Friday 9 May at 11:59pm, with the winner set to be announced on Wednesday 28 May.
