A police investigation has been opened over allegations of “offensive and discriminatory” chants coming from Salford City’s 2-0 loss at Northampton Town FC over the weekend.
Northampton claimed that the away end’s chants were aimed “towards the traveller community”.
Northampton Town FC released the following statement yesterday:
“We urge any supporter who may have heard or witnessed any such chanting from individuals within the Salford City supporters section, or who may have any information in relation to this matter, to please contact Northamptonshire Police by calling 101.”

Both teams are co-operating with police.
