It was a tough night at the Toughsheet Community Stadium for Salford City as they lost 3-0 against League One highfliers Bolton Wanderers.

Neil Wood named a much-changed side, with three debuts among six changes from the defeat against Morecambe last Saturday.

Summer signings Joe Wright and Ethan Ingram along and graduate Ben Collins made their first-ever appearances in Ammies colours, facing a similarly changed Trotters side.

The title holders currently sit second in League One and made an instant impact with Carlos Mendes scoring with less than a minute on the clock with a long ranged strike.

Wanderers showed their strength throughout the half and made it 2-0 when captain Ricardo Santos flicked his header past debutant Wright in goal.

Salford’s chances came few and far between, Connor McLennan’s tame header barely troubling Nathan Baxter.

Aaron Morley made it 3-0 after 54 minutes, his effort being drilled into the bottom corner of the goal and sealing the game for Bolton.

Ethan Ingram had an impressive game for Salford, the West Brom loanee making many impressive runs and gave the travelling support some enthusiasm about what he can bring to the side this season.

Salford sit bottom of Group E, with home ties against Stockport County and Manchester United Under 21’s to come for the Ammies.
